Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is the best way to get permanent hair removal because the atrophy of the hair follicle. The major advantage of lasers is the quick observation that atrophy of the follicles changes the appearance of the skin. Full results and long-term hair removal laser is achieved by controlling regrowth in a progressive and quantified manner. 

The result of laser hair removal depends on the following factors:

1Density Hair: A denser hair needs less penetration of the laser. Treatment should be modulated to achieve complete hair removal avoiding burns in both thin hair and thick hair.

2Laser type: There are more effective lasers for lighter hair like Alexandrite® and Lightsheer®. Alexandrite lasers like Ruby have more affinity with thin hair. Lasers with longer pulses as the Soprano XLi ®, Polaris ® and the LightSheer ® have more capacity to affect the thick hair in dense areas. The Intense pulsed light (IPL) devices are less painful because they do not maintain sustained levels of efficient energy needed to destroy the follicle. When pain is generated burns are more likely to occur.

3Color of skin: On clear skin is allowed to use more power. The more power used the more results it will show. Darker color of the skin will prevent the laser to penetrate and it will make skin burns more probable as the power will rise. When power is decreased result is sacrificed, causing hair thinning and this will make a more difficult depilation. Are required in cases with thick hair and darker skin lasers with good power and with the possibility of longer pulses to reach the follicle achieve more sustained duration power. In the presence of thin hair and lighter on darker skin laser fails and comes with enough power to the follicle. Then shorter pulses are required, this is more energy in less time. This is achieved with lasers like LightSheer®, and long pulse Alexandrite laser, but it requires greater skill from the operator to avoid burns.

4Tolerance to pain: The greater tolerance to pain or the use of anesthetic creams can make the treatment more efficient.

5Hair Color: Dark hair has more eumelanin. Light hair has more pheomelanin. Pheomelanin does not capture IPL as the lasers Alexandrite or Diodes 800 nm do. Pheomelanin captures less laser energy. The feumelanina is best captured by lasers with high power capacity in shorter times i.e. higher energy density per pulse. White and red hairs require radiofrequency or electrolysis.

6Consistency of treatment: The decrease in the amount of hair in each control is the key analysis for treatment control. This means that there must be continuity. The patient undergoing treatment for achieving its goal ends once reductions are achieved treatment is going well.

7The Physician: Physicians should evaluate all factors to succeed and not injure the skin or produce bad results. They must take into account the population groups, densities, hair and skin colors, areas, partial results, devices, power levels and intervals.

Treatment

With our experience we have defined that hair removal depends on the proper evaluation of cases and by notifying the patient, in advance, about the expected results and the following points should be beared:

1Total duration of treatment: The duration must comply with the time it will take for the expected hair to regrow. As a general rule once a period of 6 months of no more hair regrowth, very little hair will grow again.

2Budget: Treatment of technically difficult areas or the largest laser hair removal will require more resources from the center. They are less expensive treatments in small areas with sparse dark hair on light skin. The minimum to provide efficient service to all patients are having variety of equipment brands and backed by scientific studies, have experts in the procedure. The common denominator of people with bad answers and burns with sequelae is the center where the doctor does not direct the course of treatment allowing medical procedures are performed with low quality equipment and untrained staff to make the analysis of reduction or directly solve complications.

3Ideal intervals of the sessions: Intervals are shorter in the most difficult cases, and they will be longer if the control session is the ideal time for the next session.
